Early 2020, in partnership with Georgia Aquarium, we kicked-off our Guardians of H2O program with four schools in the Atlanta Public School System for the Water Genome Project, the Guardians of H2O program has grown into an engaging virtual experience that provides a full suite of hands-on, real-world learning opportunities for students.

It's more than environmental literacy.

It's a movement.

Real-World Application

Students will explore science and engineering concepts that apply them to real-world design challenges.

Access to a nationally recommended Virtual STEAM Curriculum for classroom instruction and after school programs.

The Connection Between Data, Science and Modern Life

Module 1

With issues of public health more important than ever, and with climate change and other factors now threatening our ability to thrive on the planet, how can data science be used to help us monitor the environment and protect our own health in the process?

The students will identify the effects of lead contamination on public health.  Using resources provided by Aquagenuity, the students will research the origins of lead in our water, the health implications of lead and learn what the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) and Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) are as set by the EPA.

Understanding Lead Contamination

Module 2

Module 3

Understanding EPA (MCLs)

The students will study different contaminants regulated by the EPA (find the list here) that are typically found in tap water in the United States.  Using resources provided by Aquagenuity, the students will then study prevalent unregulated contaminants and their health impacts.
